Van Dyke focuses his practice in technology and intellectual property counseling, procurement, licensing, and litigation in federal courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission.

For the past 17 years, Van Dyke has represented technology companies in diverse fields of intellectual property law. His broad technical background in computer software, digital rights, and other information-based technologies, combined with his extensive skill in the life sciences, biotechnology, chemical, and other arts, offers a unique combination and insight, particularly regarding emerging and increasingly transformative technological disciplines. In addition, he has experience in the valuation and licensing of such technologies in corporate mergers and other ventures.

Van Dyke is an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University, where he teaches classes covering the history of technology and law, intellectual property law, and technology law, and also taught international and comparative intellectual property law while an adjunct professor at American University, Washington College of Law.

Van Dyke is affiliated with several bar associations and serves on numerous committees. Currently he is chair of Greater Washington’s Licensing Executives Society, chair of the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s Emerging Technology Committee, and is on the Board of Directors of the International Technology Law Association. He has also assisted the State and other departments in speaking to foreign dignitaries on intellectual property issues.

Van Dyke earned his juris doctor from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was President of the American Indian Law Student Association, his master’s from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, with honors, from University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
