Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Dr. Hans-Jürgen Lütt is joining the firm’s Frankfurt office as a partner. Formerly a partner with the German law firm Luther Menold, Lütt practices in the area of mergers and acquisitions, with a recent focus on private equity transactions. He is expected to begin at Latham & Watkins later this month.

“Expanding Latham’s M&A and private equity practice in Germany has been a critical strategic objective since the firm opened here in 2001,” noted Jörg Soehring, Managing Partner of Latham’s German offices. “By bringing Hans-Jürgen Lütt into our team, we have taken another very significant step toward achieving this goal.”

Lütt has played a leading role in several of the largest M&A transactions in Germany this year. He is presently representing BC Partners in its ongoing purchase of the Tele Columbus cable television assets from Deutsche Bank. He also represented the Bauer/Hypovereinsbank Consortium in the bid for the Pro7 Sat.1 television properties owned by KirchMedia. In recent years, he also played a leading role in the privatization of a number of municipal utilities, including ones operating in Düsseldorf , Bielefeld and Kassel.

Lütt received his doctorate in law from the University of Kiel in 1988 and completed his Second State Exam in 1990. He was admitted to the German bar in 1991 and as a certified tax advisor in 1996. Attorney of one of the predecessor firms of Luther Menold since 1991, he became a local partner at Andersen Luther in 1998 and an international partner at Andersen Worldwide in 2001. Prior to joining Latham, Lütt served as one of the two legal location heads of Andersen Luther’s Frankfurt office
