Graham C. Grady of Mayer Brown Rowe + Maw was elected President of the American Bar Retirement Association (ABRA) at the Annual Meeting of the American Bar Association (ABA) in San Francisco. The first African-American President of ABRA, Mr. Grady’s election coincided with that of former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer as the first African-American to be elected president of the ABA.
The largest association of its type, ABRA manages $4.2 billion in pension funds on behalf of over 50,000 lawyer participants at 5,000 U.S.-based law firms. During his tenure on the ABRA Board, Mr. Grady chaired the Executive, Audit, Attorneys, and Marketing Committees, and for two years he served as ABRA’s Treasurer.
Mr. Grady served in the cabinet of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley from 1989 to 1995. A graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, Mr. Grady previously served as a director of the Housing Authority Risk Retention Group, which is comprised of eight different companies that provide liability coverage, property insurance and other services to its member public housing authorities in the United States and Puerto Rico. This directorship was a result of his position as chief executive of the Chicago Housing Authority.
An active contributor to the nonprofit community in Chicago, Mr. Grady serves on several boards of directors including Brookfield Zoo/Chicago Zoological Society; Art Institute of Chicago, Architecture and Design Committee; Chicago Plan Commission, Ex-Officio Member (1989-94); Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce; Metropolitan Family Services; Northwestern University School of Law, Law Board; Old St. Patrick’s Church; Sacred Heart Schools; and The Trust for Public Lands.
