Bell Gully Retains Place In Global Top Tier Legal Rankings

LAWFUEL – The Law Firm Newswire – Bell Gully has retained its top rankings in the just released 2008 edition of IFLR1000, a guide to the world’s leading financial law firms.

The firm is named in the top tier of recommended New Zealand firms in the practice areas of banking and project finance, capital markets, insolvency and restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions and has eight partners listed as leading lawyers. Bell Gully has consistently held annual top tier rankings and has also been named the IFLR New Zealand Law Firm of the Year for the last four years.

IFLR1000 2008 notes banking and finance partner David McPherson has an excellent property finance practice and fellow partner Hugh Kettle is also singled out for praise by clients and rivals. It also says: ”Bell Gully has a market-leading capital markets practice in New Zealand with particular praise reserved for Murray King and his ‘excellent’ securitisation group” and that “David Craig is the firm’s best-known personality in the field and comes highly recommended by competitors”.

In its mergers and acquisitions review, IFLR says: “Bell Gully’s corporate practice is widely recognised as one of the best in New Zealand, with a number of standout practitioners. One rival said of Gavin Macdonald: ‘He’s a top lawyer in this area – fantastic’ while David Flacks’ expertise in private equity transactions is well-known”.

Murray Tingey is noted as “a well respected practitioner” in the restructuring and insolvency area.

IFLR1000 is an international legal guide to top law firms advising on international corporate finance matters and its inclusion and ranking of firms and leading lawyers is based on research including interviews with private practice lawyers and in-house counsel in global business and finance centres.
