Arizona Man Gets 10 Years For Sexual Abuse of Minor

PHOENIX – LAWFUEL – Legal Newswire – William Cleveland Mosbarger, 45, of Laveen, Ariz. was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David G. Campbell yesterday to 10 years in federal prison. On September 6, 2007, Mosbarger pleaded guilty to Sexual Abuse of a Minor after he sexually abused a 15-year-old girl on the Gila River Indian Reservation.

Mosbarger had previously been convicted for sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl on the Navajo Indian Reservation in 1997. For that offense, he received a sentence of 18 months prison. The victim’s family in the current offense did not know about the previous conviction or that Mosbarger was a registered sex offender. Mosbarger received credit for 23 months already served in tribal jail, which means that he will serve approximately 97 months in federal prison. Mosbarger will thereafter be placed on lifetime supervised release and be required to register as a sex offender and undergo sex offender treatment.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Gila River Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution was handled by Sharon K. Sexton, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
