Mallesons Stephen Jaques is the recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships 2003, presented late last month in Sydney.
Now in their fourth year, the Awards stemmed from the formation of the Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership, comprising prominent Australians from the business and community sectors. The Awards celebrate those organisations that have ‘developed outstanding partnerships that actively contribute to social cohesion and a better Australia’.
Mallesons received the NSW Award in the large business category for its partnership with the Ted Noffs Foundation. There are three key elements to the partnership: ASK! A Legal Service for Youth; financial support provided through the Workplace Giving Program; and the volunteer efforts of many Mallesons’ staff in activities such as the Ted Noffs Corporate Challenge for Youth
“The firm has an extensive Mallesons in the Community program. The partnership with Ted Noffs and ASK! has enabled Mallesons to create an enriched working experience for its employees through the provision of opportunities that are beyond the commercial business environment,” said Jamie Prell, partner, Mallesons Stephen Jaques.
“The firm is committed to its involvement with the Ted Noffs Foundation and our people have a real desire to assist with the ASK! Program. We provide legal and management expertise, financial assistance and administrative support to disadvantaged young people enabling us to lead even more fulfilled and complete lives.
“I understand that over the last two years of operation ASK! has assisted approximately 80 young people to deal with their legal and other problems, and this number is growing rapidly as ASK! becomes more well known. The young people we see at ASK! are just so grateful to find someone who is able to spend half an hour or more with them to help with their problems.
“We are so pleased we can assist,” said Mr Prell.
