Baker & McKenzie announced today that Christine Lagarde, Chairman of the Executive Committee, has been awarded the Légion d’Honneur. The Légion d’Honneur is France’s highest civilian decoration and is given in recognition of outstanding individual achievement.
Madame Lagarde received her decoration from the President of France, Jacques Chirac, during a ceremony at the Palais d’Elysée in Paris. During the ceremony, President Chirac outlined Madame Lagarde’s personal and professional experience with Baker & McKenzie and her membership of numerous committees and organisations in both France and the USA. He referred to her as a role model, calling her the “charismatic leader of the largest law firm in the world.”
Commenting on the decoration, Christine Lagarde said, “Whilst I am, naturally, thrilled to have been honoured by my country in this way, I am confident that this award equally recognises the achievements and successes of Baker & McKenzie. I am as proud to lead my firm as I am to have received the Légion d’Honneur, and look forward to continuing to serve my partners through the remainder of my term as their Chairman.”
