Morrison & Foerster is pleased to announce that partner Tony West has been named to the Board of Directors of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Mr. West was confirmed by the California State Senate on January 26, 2004. He will serve a 12-year term. Keith Wetmore, Chair of the Firm, commented: “Tony is an outstanding attorney with the skills to make a valuable and constructive contribution to Hastings. He brings to the Board a wealth of knowledge and a tremendous legal acumen, as well as a demonstrated dedication to public service.”

Mr. West is a member of the Litigation Department and resident in the firm’s San Francisco office. His practice focuses on complex civil and criminal litigation matters, including securities litigation and federal civil and criminal investigations. Mr. West served as an Assistant U.S Attorney in the Northern District of California from 1994 to 1999, and as Special Assistant to the Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., from 1993 to 1994. In 1999, Mr. West was appointed Special Assistant Attorney General for California.
Mr. West attended Harvard University where he served as Publisher of the Harvard Political Review, graduating with honors in 1987. He received his J.D. degree in 1992 from Stanford Law School, where he was President of the Stanford Law Review. Mr. West joined Morrison & Foerster in 2001. In addition to his practice, Mr. West is also a legal analyst for ESPN.
Hastings College of the Law was established by statute in 1878 and named after Serranus Clinton Hastings, the first Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court. The College is governed by a Board of Directors. With the exception of one Board member who, as specified by statute, shall always be an heir or representative of Serranus Clinton Hastings, the members of the Board are appointed by the Governor of the State of California, and confirmed by the State Senate.
