April 1, 2004 Baker Botts L.L.P. is pleased to announce the return of Robert W. Jordan, a former senior partner in the firm’s Dallas office and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mr. Jordan returns as a senior partner in the firm’s Dallas office, where he will engage in an international business practice, as well as focus on the areas of international dispute resolution and litigation. His experience in the Middle East will bring a global perspective to the work he undertakes for his clients," says Managing Partner Walt Smith. "It was an honor to serve the President as ambassador during such a critical time in our history, and an experience that I will never forget." During Mr. Jordan’s time in the Middle East, from October 2001 to October 2003, he worked closely with senior Saudi and American leaders to enlist Saudi support for U.S. government initiatives in Afghanistan and Iraq, and in promoting the Middle East Peace Process. Before his role as U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Jordan was a senior partner in the litigation department and one of the founding partners of the firm’s Dallas office, which was established in 1985. Over a legal career spanning 30 years, Mr. Jordan has handled national business litigation in the federal and state courts and arbitration and mediation proceedings before domestic and international tribunals. He has also advised major corporations in shareholder litigation, antitrust, corporate governance and dispute resolution matters. "Bob was instrumental in the creation of the firm’s Dallas office," says Jack Kinzie, Partner in Charge of the firm’s Dallas office. "He is a stellar lawyer and a leader in his profession and in his community." Commenting on Mr. Jordan’s experience, Stephen Matthews, Partner in Charge of the firm’s Riyadh, Saudi Arabia office, says, "Bob understands the important relationship that exists between the United States and the countries in the Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia. His wealth of knowledge relating to international matters and key development initiatives in the Middle East will be a great asset to our firm." Throughout his career, Mr. Jordan has been actively involved in numerous professional and community organizations. A former President of the Dallas Bar Association, he was a member of the Board of Directors of The State Bar of Texas and served on the boards of numerous charitable and civic organizations. Prior to his service as U.S. Ambassador, he was a member of the American Arbitration Association Panel of Commercial Arbitrators and the Panel of Distinguished Neutrals of the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Jordan received his J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1974, his M.A. in government from the University of Maryland in 1971, and his A.B. in political science from Duke University in 1967.
