Washington, DC- LAWFUEL – Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP (K&L) is pleased to announce that
Michael J. King has joined its Washington office as a partner in the
securities enforcement and financial services practice groups. King comes
to K&L from Clifford Chance US LLP. His prior experience also includes
service as Chief Counsel and Chief Litigation Counsel at the National
Association of Securities Dealers’ (NASD) Market Regulation Department, as a
trial attorney in the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and as
a staff attorney in the Division of Market Regulation of the U.S. Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC).
King, age 48 and a 1981 graduate of American University’s Washington College
of Law, focuses his practice on regulatory matters impacting U.S. and
foreign financial institutions, including broker-dealers, investment
advisers/managers, banks, investment companies and hedge funds. He has
represented financial institutions and individuals in a broad range of
matters before the SEC, New York Stock Exchange, NASD and state financial
regulators. In addition to providing day-to-day counseling on securities
law and compliance matters, King is currently representing major financial
institutions in pending SEC, NASD, US Attorney and State Attorney General
investigations. While at the NASD, King managed and directed the Market
Regulation Department’s legal department during a period of unprecedented
change in the structure and regulation of the NASDAQ stock market.
K&L’s securities enforcement practice is more than 40 lawyers strong and,
among other notable engagements, recently prepared three comprehensive
reports as Counsel to the Examiner in the WorldCom bankruptcy proceeding.
