BALTIMORE, MD September 12, 2008 (LAWFUEL) – Diane Festino Schmitt, principal in the law firm Ober|Kaler, has been selected to serve on the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland’s Judicial Selections Committee. As a Committee member, Ms. Schmitt will interview candidates for judicial appointments throughout Maryland.
Practicing in Ober|Kaler’s Litigation Group and Creditor’s Rights, Workouts and Bankruptcy Group, Ms. Schmitt focuses on commercial, business and corporate litigation in federal and state courts. She has successfully represented national, international, and local financial institutions in a variety of commercial litigation actions. She is author of “Family Leave and Medical Leave Act,” Guide to Equal Employment Practices (Warren, Gorham & Lamont).
Ms. Schmitt is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law (J.D., with honors, 1984) and University of Maryland (B.A., cum laude, 1981). She resides in Cockeysville.
About the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland
The stated purpose of the WBA is “to maintain the honor and integrity of the legal profession, assist in the administration of justice, promote and advance the interest of women engaged in the practice of law and advance the status of women in society.” Founded in 1929, the WBA has been instrumental in increasing the representation of women and minorities in the Maryland courts. The organization cites as its most significant accomplishment its successful campaign to reduce gender bias in Maryland courts, through which the number of female and minority state judges increased significantly from 1989 to 2003.
