Adams and Reese Partner Lucian Pera selected among handful of panelists
to speak at historic event
(LAWFUEL) – Best Lawyers, the country’s original and most well-respected lawyer-rating directory, will honor the legal careers of Adams and Reese LLP attorneys Henry B. Alsobrook, Jr., Anthony J. Correro III and Joseph B. Walker, for being listed in every Best Lawyers edition since the publication began rating lawyers in 1983. The three Adams and Reese attorneys are among just 1,397 attorneys nationwide who will be honored at the Best Lawyers’ 25th Anniversary Event on April 23-25 at the Georgia Aquarium, in Atlanta, Ga.

Adams and Reese Partner Lucian Pera, out of the firm’s Memphis office, has also been selected by Best Lawyers among a handful of speakers for the event to serve as a panelist for a “Civility and the Law” forum and discussion to be held on Friday, April 24 at the St. Regis Hotel. U.S. District Court Judge Bernice B. Donald, Western District of Tennessee, will serve as the forum’s moderator, and Pera will be joined on the panel by Lawrence J. Fox, of Drinker, Biddle & Reath.
The event will open with a gala at the Georgia Aquarium on Thursday, April 23, with remarks by Carolyn Lamm, President-Elect of the American Bar Association. On Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25, at the St. Regis hotel, attendees will engage in panel-led discussions about changes in the legal profession and legal education over the last 25 years.

Alsobrook, who serves as Of Counsel out of Adams and Reese’s New Orleans office, is listed in Best Lawyers in Medical Malpractice Law and Personal Injury Litigation. He has practiced in New Orleans for more than 50 years since he was admitted to the Bar in 1957. He is a former President of the Louisiana State Bar Association and a former member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association.

Alsobrook was the former first president of the New Orleans Association of Defense Counsel and former president of the International Association of Defense Counsel. He served on Louisiana Governor’s Commission on Medical Malpractice and was a former member of Louisiana State Law Institute and a former state chairman of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Alsobrook is a past faculty member of Tulane University Law School, where he served as Chairman of Dean’s Council. He was also a lecturer for numerous legal institutions and medical schools and wrote articles, published both nationally and internationally.
Correro, Special Counsel for the Transactions and Corporate Advisory Services Group in the firm’s New Orleans office, has more than 40 years of experience in corporate and securities law, mergers and acquisitions and banking law, and has been ranked as the No. 1 securities lawyer in Louisiana by Chambers and Partners.
“It is nice to be recognized every year by peers in the legal profession,” said Correro on the Best Lawyers’ honor.
Correro has represented more Louisiana-based public companies than any other lawyer and has done more than 30 Louisiana financial institution mergers as well as myriad business combination transactions in other industries. He helped bring statewide banking into Louisiana having written the Louisiana Bank Holding Company Law.
Walker, a Partner in the firm’s Tax Team and Transactions and Corporate Advisory Services Group out of the Memphis office, is listed in Best Lawyers in trusts and estates law and is a fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He has more than 30 years experience in state and federal taxation, trust and estate planning, asset protection and wealth management structures and probate. Walker is also a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology Team and has represented clients ranging in size from a Fortune 500 multinational company to start up and middle market entities and individuals needing assistance as licensors or licensees of computer and information technology databases, software and services, including development, protection, maintenance and marketing agreements as well as hardware and peripheral purchase and lease agreements.
In 2006, with the creation of the Mid-South Super Lawyers selection process, Walker was honored with being named among: Mid-South Super Lawyers; the Top 100 in Tennessee Super Lawyers and the Top 50 in the Memphis Area Super Lawyers.
“It seems just like yesterday when a client called me to say that I had been listed in the first edition of Best Lawyers,” Walker said. “At that time, there were only two Memphis lawyers named in trust and estates law. I was very honored by my inclusion, but my parents were absolutely thrilled. From 1983, my inclusion in Best Lawyers has helped set me apart from other lawyers and the annual qualifying and republishing by Best Lawyers of its list has been a constant reminder to those in my community of my inclusion in such a select group.”
A panelist at the anniversary event, Pera is also listed in Best Lawyers in three areas – First Amendment Law (2004 to present), Ethics and Professional Responsibility Law (2007 to present) and Commercial Litigation (2008 to present). He has served as a member of the American Bar Association’s Special Commission on the Evaluation of the Rules of Professional Conduct (the “Ethics 2000 Commission”), which proposed significant changes to the ABA Model Rule of Professional conduct. These changes were approved in 2002 by the ABA and have been adopted in large part by 39 American jurisdictions. He has also chaired the Tennessee Bar Association’s ethics committee since 2000, has chaired the ABA Section of Business Law’s Committee on Professional Conduct, and continues to chair the Media Law Resource Center’s ethics committee.
“I do a lot of ethics seminars, but doing one on professionalism and civility with Judge Donald – a fine judge and model of civility and professionalism – and Larry Fox – one of the country’s leading lights on ethics – and doing it before this particular audience of top-flight lawyers from all over; well, it’s a little intimidating. But it should be a lot of fun,” Pera said.
