Maureen Bateman Joins Holland & Knight’s Private Wealth Services Practice
New York, NY – December 1, 2004 – Holland & Knight LLP today announced that Maureen Bateman, who was executive vice president and general counsel at State Street Corporation from 1997 – 2003, is joining the firm’s Private Wealth Services Dispute Resolution practice.
Immediately prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Bateman was Bank of America’s Senior Special Counsel where she conducted an independent review of the bank’s mutual fund policies and practices and a special review of all legal, regulatory and compliance matters for Bank of America Capital Management and its affiliates. Ms. Bateman joined Bank of America from State Street Corporation where she was a member of the Strategy Steering Committee. Ms. Bateman supervised a staff of 125, which included Industry Affairs and Community Affairs. She also was responsible for managing the legal functions of the bank holding company and its banking and non-banking subsidiaries in the U.S. and overseas.
Ms. Bateman began her career at Davis Polk and Wardwell working with Holland & Knight partner Charlie Gibbs. After working in the legal departments of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company and Bankers Trust Company she joined U.S. Trust Company of New York as general counsel and managing director.
“Maureen’s extensive trust experience will be extremely valuable to our Dispute Resolution Group, which specializes in representing trust companies and other fiduciaries,” said Edward Koren, chair of Holland & Knight’s Private Wealth Services practice. “She is in the perfect position to lead the Northeast expansion of the Dispute Resolution Group.”
Ms. Bateman is a frequent guest lecturer on investment advisory, banking, technology and legal topics, and has spoken at various forums, including the Boston Bar Association, ALI-ABA, Morin Center for Banking and Financial Law, The Fifth Annual Law Department Summit Meeting, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

Ms. Bateman is admitted to practice in New York and Massachusetts and received her bachelor’s degree in 1964 from Manhattanville College, and earned her law degree in 1968 from Fordham Law School.
