December 21 2004 – LAWFUEL – First with law news – Mallesons Stephen Jaques has announced the appointment of partner Rowan Russell to the firm’s London office. This appointment as senior partner, London, is effective at the end of December 2004.
Mr Russell, who regularly acts for Australia’s largest corporations and arrangers in accessing the domestic and international capital markets, will further enhance the corporate finance practice and capital markets capability of the London office of Mallesons.
This move follows the recent merger of Mallesons’ Hong Kong / mainland China practice with the local firm, Kwok & Yih, making Mallesons’ Hong Kong practice one of the top ten largest in Hong Kong.
Mallesons Asia Pacific and London practices are closely interconnected with the firm routinely using teams across different offices to resource transactions involving multiple jurisdictions.
In announcing the move, Mallesons’ chief executive partner, Robert Milliner, said: “Rowan will provide a robust and complementary dimension to our London practice, with expertise to accord with the multi-jurisdictional nature of much of our work done out of London.
“In conjunction with our increased Asia capability, we are well positioned to deliver further cross-border transactions and offer advice on multi-jurisdictional matters for our increasingly international client base.”
This year Mallesons won International Financial Law Review’s (IFLR) Regional Law Firm of the Year award. An IFLR media statement commented: “Many of Asia’s leading financial institutions and other market players have applauded the Australian firm’s push in corporate, banking, finance and capital markets work across the region.”
Mallesons Stephen Jaques is renowned in the Asia Pacific region for its strength in construction, projects, debt capital markets, securitisation and dispute resolution. This year’s merger with Kwok & Yih provides Mallesons with one of the most active corporate / M&A and equity capital markets practices in Hong Kong and mainland China.
