4 February 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – On Monday, January 31, 2005, the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut ruled in favor of the Yale Law School faculty who had brought suit against Donald H. Rumsfeld, in his official capacity as U.S. Secretary of Defense.
In Burt v. Rumsfeld, the Court granted a permanent injunction enjoining the U.S. government from applying the Solomon Amendment to deprive Yale University of approximately $350 million in annual federal funding because of the Law School’s refusal to assist military recruiters’ discriminatory recruitment practices. Cravath, led by partner Daniel Slifkin and retired partner Paul Dodyk, represented a majority of the Yale Law School faculty on the case.
