2 March 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Attorney Frank L. Branson is the most recent recipient of the Professor W. McKinley Smiley Jr. Lighthouse Award, honoring the country’s most outstanding lawyer in the areas of advocacy teaching, training and legal scholarship.
Presented annually by the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, the award is
named for its inaugural winner, Stetson College of Law professor W. McKinley
Smiley Jr. The award was first presented in 1997 and recognizes attorneys
that stand out as mentors to young lawyers and professional peers.
“I’ve always been grateful to lawyers who’ve taken the time to teach me the
art of courtroom advocacy,” says Branson. “Therefore, it’s been a privilege
for me to publish and to share through presentations at conferences what
I’ve learned in the courtroom.”
For 35 years, Mr. Branson has assisted juries in forcing tougher safety
measures in the auto manufacturing, truck, aviation and pharmaceutical
industries. Branson is a firm believer that juries have accomplished far
more than “all the politicians and government bureaucrats put together” to
ensure the safety of Texans.
