30 May – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Skadden was named “Global Law Firm of the Year” and “USA Corporate/M&A Law Firm of the Year” at the Chambers and Partners annual dinner on May 19 in London. The firm was chosen to receive the titles by a panel of judges that included senior lawyers and vice presidents from companies such as Reuters Group, McDonalds, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, ICI, BAT and AOL Europe. Additionally, the firm was on the shortlist for eight other awards.

The “Global Law Firm of the Year” award, the night’s top honor, was presented by Cherie Booth, human-rights lawyer and wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Chambers said: “Judges focused on cohesive office networks, consistent technical excellence and a flexibility in the development of resources. Above all they looked for a global approach – one which transcends geographical boundaries … For this award there was no shortlist. The judges had an entirely free choice. The firm honoured here tonight is one of the most respected legal practices in the world. It consistently takes top spot in global mergers and acquisitions tables. Beyond this, it continues to dominate in other practice areas such as litigation, capital markets and energy. This is a firm, say the judges, which sets a standard of excellence in the international legal market.”

Addtionally, one hundred and twenty-nine Skadden attorneys were recognized as leading lawyers by Chambers USA.

In 2004, Joe Flom received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Chambers as well as from The American Lawyer.
