New York — September 6, 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – The international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP announced today that it has established a charitable contribution matching program to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Firm will match individual donations contributed by Firm personnel to the Chadbourne & Parke Foundation for Hurricane Katrina Relief, up to a total of $100,000 for all donations firm-wide.
The Firm also announced it will be working with churches in Katy, Texas, (part of Houston) which are being used as shelters for refugees, to collect blankets, clothing and other items for babies, and personal hygiene supplies. The schools there will be enrolling the refugee children and school supplies are needed. To help the churches in Houston, Chadbourne will be collecting pillows, sheets, blankets, towels toiletries, underwear/clothes, baby items, including formula, non-perishable food, and water.
“We are all deeply saddened by the loss of life and devastation caused in the states affected by Hurricane Katrina,” said Chadbourne & Parke Managing Partner Charles K. O’Neill. “Many charitable organizations which rely heavily on corporate and individual donations are assisting and will be in need of additional funds for an extended period. In order to encourage individual donations, the Firm has decided to establish a charitable contribution matching program.”
Chadbourne undertook a similar relief effort after the tsunami hit Asia last December.
The Firm’s Charitable Contribution Advisory Committee, which comprises Firm staff and legal personnel, will make recommendations to the Chadbourne & Parke Foundation Directors as to specific charities which their research shows are likely to continue to be the most effective in the long-term relief effort.
