September 20, 2005, New York – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Reed Smith LLP, a top 25 international law firm, today announced the addition of three partners to its New York City office. Thomas L. Fairfield, John J. Altorelli and Mark G. Pedretti – all three formerly with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP – are the newest members of the firm’s Business and Regulatory Department.

Mr. Altorelli and Mr. Pedretti will be resident in the firm’s New York City office; Mr. Fairfield will practice in both the Wilmington, Delaware and New York offices of the firm.

“One of our key strategic initiatives has been to grow and strengthen the New York City office generally and our corporate practice in particular,” said David M. Grimes, Reed Smith’s New York City Market Managing Partner. “The addition of these three partners has helped further that goal.”

Mr. Fairfield and Mr. Altorelli were previously partners in the New York office of Paul Hastings, representing private equity funds, operating companies and financial institutions in a variety of mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, securities and related transactional work. Mr. Fairfield earned an undergraduate and law school degrees from Georgetown University in 1980 and 1983, respectively. Mr. Altorelli earned a B.S. from Southern Connecticut State University in 1991 and a J.D. from Cornell University in 1993.

Mr. Pedretii was of counsel in the New York and Stamford offices of Paul Hastings. He likewise has a practice representing private equity funds, operating companies and financial institutions in mergers and acquisitions, securities and a wide range of other transactions. Mr. Pedretti earned a B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University in 1988 and J.D. from St. Johns University School of Law in 1992.
