9 November – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – City law firm Eversheds recently advised Governance for Owners LLP (GO), a new independent partnership, on the formation of its European Focus Fund limited partnership (EFF) and on the provision by GO of stewardship services to Railpen, one of the biggest pension funds in the UK.
The Eversheds team, led by Antony Thomlinson, a partner in the financial services team, assisted by associate Jonathan Master, established both the fund manager and the new fund.
Antony comments: “Eversheds has been working with GO since February 2005, helping establish both the fund manager and the new fund. Railpen’s €200,000 is the first investment for this fund and represents a great opportunity for GO, which is seeking to raise €2,000,000,000 over the next year. The EFF will invest in under-performing companies and engage with the management to bring about genuine change and improvement.”
GO aims to enhance the value of clients’ investments by offering a stewardship service whereby GO will monitor their clients’ investments and advise them as to which would benefit from more shareholder involvement. This provides long term added value for clients by enabling them to exercise their ownership rights.
The Railways Pension Trustee Company Limited (Railpen) manages the industry wide pension scheme for the UK rail industry, which is one of the largest occupational pension schemes in the UK
