Mexico City, MX, June 20, 2006 – LAWFUEL – Baker & McKenzie, S.C. announced today that Jorge A. de Regil, Partner in the Firm’s labor practice group in Mexico, was granted the degree of “Doctor Honoris Causa” in International Public Law, as well as the “Mexican Order of Peace, Culture and Law”. This recognition resulted from the presentation of his thesis, “International Labor Law, Freedom of Association and the Situation of International Labor,” to become a member of the Mexican Academy of International Law.
Mr. de Regil has also been appointed Vice-President Employer of the 95th International Labor Conference, which took place from May 31 through June 16 in the Palais des Nations, 8-14 avenue de la Paix, Geneva, Switzerland. The Conference is the annual tripartite meeting of the International Labor Organization’s 178 member States that continues to seek the promotion of social justice and internationally recognized human and labor rights.
“I am very honored for the recognitions received on my thesis to become a member of the Mexican International Law Academy. But most of all, I am grateful for the continual support the Firm has always given me and I believe today´s recognition is extensive to the Firm as well,” said Mr. de Regil.

Mr. de Regil was admitted to practice law in Mexico in 1969 and attended schools in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and Washington, D.C., USA. He joined Baker & McKenzie in 1979 and became Partner in 1980.
The Mexican Academy of International Law, a non-governmental organization, is one of the oldest institutions of science in Mexico and Latin America. It is devoted to the study, coding, development and promotion of International Law, with special interests in the Latin American countries and with intervention in Mexico’s foreign policy with the rest of the countries worldwide. The academy has permanent representation at the United Nations. Several renowned Mexican and foreign legal authorities, writers, authors, professors and lawyers are members, such as Javier Pérez de Cuellar, Boutros Boutros- Ghali, Alfonso García Robles, Manuel Tello and Luis Quintanilla.
