WASHINGTON, DC – June 26, 2006 Veteran employee benefits lawyer, and former Department of Labor litigation attorney, Térese M. Connerton, has joined the firm as a principal.
Ms. Connerton, formerly a shareholder at Schmeltzer, Aptaker & Shepard
in Washington DC, has joined Ober|Kaler to lead its employee benefits practice. Ms. Connerton brings to the firm over 25 years of employee benefits experience.
Before entering private practice in 1986, Ms. Connerton served as a litigation attorney for the Special Litigation Division at the Department of Labor.
In private practice, she concentrates her practice in the area of employee benefit plan design and administration, employee benefit issues in corporate transactions, fiduciary and tax compliance counseling, plan mergers and terminations, and employee benefits litigation. She represents plan sponsors, multiemployer plan trustees, other plan fiduciaries, service providers, employer associations and participants.
Ms. Connerton received her LL.M from Georgetown University Law Center in 1990. She earned her J.D. (with honor) in 1980 from Capital University School of Law, and her B.A. in 1974 from Ohio State University.
Ms. Connerton is a contributing author and Senior Editor of Employee Benefits Law, ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law (BNA 2000), and
a contributing author of the Multiemployer Plan Chapter in the Fiduciary Answer Book (Aspen 2006).
She is a former president and current member of the DC Chapter of Worldwide Employee Benefits Network and the former Co-chair of the Employee Benefits Committee of the ABA Labor and Employment Law Section. She is a member of Society for Human Resource Management, the Employee Benefits Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the DC Bar.
