Senior Ashurst lawyer Bernd Egbers, based in the firm’s Munich office, has been as to leave the firm due to “conduct which is contrary to (the firm’s) values’.

The actual ‘conduct’ referred to is not disclosed in the statement, but Egbers joined the firm in 2006 from Norton Rose, handling cross-border financial transactions.

He became a partner in 2016 after merging with Blake Dawson, the Australian firm, with revenues dipping that year by 10 per cent, which also followed a revenue drop the year before when profits per equity partner also dipped to £603,000 from £747,000 during the 2015/16 financial year.

The firm’s position has recovered somewhat recently.
