TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Pam Bondi issued the following statement following the Senate Rules Committee’s unanimous passage of the Florida Information Protection Act of 2014, Senate Bill 1524, sponsored by Senator John Thrasher.

“We must do everything we can to help protect Floridians’ identities in the wake of a data breach, and I am grateful to the Senate Rules Committee for their unanimous support of this proposed legislation,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The proposed legislation would require businesses and governmental entities to provide proper notice of a breach to consumers and the Attorney General’s Office within 30 days. It would also require these covered entities to take reasonable measures to protect Floridians’ personal data and information.
