Attorneys Baker & McKenzie LLP Announces Two New Houston Partners

Baker & McKenzie LLP announced today that Shon Ramey joins as Partner in its Corporate & Securities practice group. He comes from the corporate sector, where he’s served as general counsel of highly-acquisitive private and public companies for several years. The Firm also announced that Liquita Thompson, of the Compensation & Employment Law practice group, is a newly elected partner effective January 1, 2008.

Mr. Ramey’s practice consists of acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures; financings, mergers and acquisitions, public and private; private investment funds; securities; and general corporate and corporate governance representation. He has significant experience in domestic and cross-border capital raising transactions, initial public offerings, collaborations, corporate governance, SEC and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, strategic alliances, private equity fund formation and commercial transactions. Corporate boards and executive management teams seek his advice regarding all aspects of their strategic planning and ongoing operations, from corporate formation and restructuring, through global private and public offerings.

Ms. Thompson specializes in labor and employment law counseling, training and litigation. Ms. Thompson graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and clerked for U.S. District Judge Denise Page Hook in the Southern District of Michigan. Ms. Thompson’s labor law practice includes representing management in union organizing campaigns and collective bargaining negotiations, and defending against unfair labor practice charges. Ms. Thompson’s employment practice consists of litigating and counseling on discrimination, retaliation, and harassment claims arising under various state and federal statutes, including Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, the FMLA, the FLSA, ERISA, various federal whistleblower provisions, and employment-related torts. She has litigated before federal and state trial and appellate courts and administrative agencies, including the NLRB and the EEOC. Ms. Thompson joined the Firm in 2002.

Ms. Thompson frequently speaks and writes articles on labor and employment law, including presentations at the ABA Developing Labor Law Midwinter Meeting and the ABA Best of the Midwinter Conference Series. She also devotes a significant amount of time to pro bono and community work. She was the Houston office’s Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year, and is one of the Baker & McKenzie attorneys recently honored by the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. with its 2008 Distinguished Service Award.
