Baker & McKenzie announced today that it was
ranked No 1 in the PLC Global 50 World Rankings 2003 and has been named
‘International Law Firm of the Year’ by PLC Global Counsel Law Firm Awards 2003.
For the second consecutive year, the Firm also won the Asia Pacific category of the
awards.

PLC Global Counsel noted that Baker & McKenzie’s No 1 ranking is a “credit to its
diverse spread and depth, and an increasingly high profile Asian practice”. It also
credited the award for Asia Pacific to the “strength and consistency of its offices
in the region.”

The PLC Global 50 World Rankings are the only qualitative assessment of law firm
performance in all major practice areas across the world. The rankings are based on
research conducted for the ninth edition of the directory PLC Global Counsel 3000.
General Counsel for the world’s leading 5,000 companies were asked for comments on
the law firms that they use. Based on this research and interviews with private
practitioners, firms were ranked in all major practice areas across 80 jurisdictions
as ‘Leading’, ‘Highly recommended’ or ‘Recommended’. The PLC Global 50 rankings are
then calculated by aggregating the results with weighting given to the level of
recommendation. The PLC Global Counsel Law Firm Awards were voted for by in-house
counsel.
