Richard Goldberg and Michael Kraines both join the firm from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein in New York and Chicago, respectively. Goldberg and Kraines will join Sandler O'Neill's expanded efforts advising securities and investment management firms, including financial technology, asset management and broker dealer firms as well as exchanges and other financial services companies. Goldberg will be responsible for overseeing the firm's investment banking efforts in this area. Collectively, Kraines and Goldberg have over 30 years of investment banking experience. Goldberg and Kraines come to Sandler O'Neill after spending 11 years at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (DKW) and its predecessor Wasserstein Perella. Goldberg was most recently head of the North American Financial Institutions Group at DKW and Kraines worked as a Managing Director focused on financial institutions mergers and acquisitions. Previously, Goldberg worked as a Vice President at Lazard Freres & Company. Goldberg began his investment banking career as a member of the Financial Institutions Group of Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb. Goldberg earned a B.A. from Boston College and an MBA from the Wharton Graduate School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to DKW, Kraines was an Associate in the investment banking group of Credit Suisse First Boston and at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis. Kraines holds a BA from Cornell University, an MBA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Harvard Law School. During their tenure at DKW and Wasserstein Perella, Goldberg and Kraines worked on a wide variety of projects including recapitalizations, restructurings and mergers and acquisitions for commercial banks, securities firms, asset managers and other financial services firms. At DKW they were involved in many deals including UBS's merger with Paine Webber, Credit Lyonnais' sale of its electronic brokerage business to the Bank of New York and Natexis Banques Popularies acquisition of Arnold & S. Bleichroeder. They also provided ongoing strategic advice to the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
