International law firm Allen & Overy has fortified its pensions practice with the promotion of associate Däna Burstow to partner. Ms Burstow joined A&O in 1993 as a trainee and from 1 May this year will be a partner specialising in pensions. The appointment is part of the promotion of 21 new partners throughout the firm's network of offices. New partners are being made up in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bratislava, Brussels, Dubai, Germany, London, Moscow, New York, the Philippines and Tokyo. With pensions issues firmly on the public agenda, Ms Burstow's combined pensions and employment experience positions her well to provide pragmatic advice to both scheme trustees and employers. Commenting on Ms Burstow's promotion, partner Maria Stimpson said: "We are delighted that Däna has received the recognition that she deserves as a first rate practitioner. I congratulate her on her achievement in meeting the standards required by the firm's demanding selection process. The 20 strong London pensions group is now led by four partners and in the next couple of years we will be working hard towards adding a fifth." Ms Burstow graduated with a BA Honours in German and Italian at Leeds University in 1991, and then completed her Common Professional Examination and Law Society Finals in Chester. She qualified in 1995 as a solicitor in Allen & Overy's Employment Pensions and Incentives (EPI) department in London. This promotion follows another key appointment to the global pensions group, Giannis Waymouth, a senior pensions lawyer, who joined the firm from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in January 2004.
