New Zealand Law Firm Chapman Tripp Works With Malaysian Attorney General On Study Of No-Fault Accident Compensation Scheme

New Zealand’s no fault Accident Compensation Scheme is being considered for Malaysia. LAWFUEL - New Zealand Law Jobs & Legal News - Two Wellington lawyers, David Cochrane and Siobhan Hale from public law firm Chapman Tripp, have been invited to Malaysia by the Malaysian Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail to assist Attorney General’s Chambers in its study of the no-fault liability scheme. “The Attorney General’s Chambers is looking at establishing a no fault motor vehicle scheme so New Zealand’s experience is very useful given that we have had ACC in place now for more than thirty years,” David Cochrane says. Mr. Cochrane and Siobhan Hale will travel as guests of Attorney General’s Chambers of Malaysia’s International Visiting Experts Programme 2007. “The No-Fault Liability scheme will alleviate a lot of the backlog of cases in the courts, because it will free them to attend to other matters,” said the Attorney General. The New Zealand lawyers will spend time in Malaysia meeting insurers, lawyers, and others with interests in the proposed scheme. They will be working alongside lawyers and researchers in Attorney General’s Chambers. “Of course, it’s a privilege to be asked to assist the Malaysians but it is also a compliment to the New Zealand scheme and the way we do things here,“ Mr. Cochrane says.
