Paul Hastings Continues Top-Tier Talent Surge With Addition to Structured Credit Team in London

London – Paul Hastings LLP, a global law firm advising leading financial institutions, asset managers and corporations, announced today that preeminent lawyer Jason Brooks has joined the firm’s London office as a partner in the Structured Credit team. He joins from CMS, where he was a partner in the Financial Services and Products group.

His arrival comes in the wake of Paul Hastings’ incredible growth in London, which saw revenue increase 41% and several high-profile lateral partners join the firm last year, including recent additions Tom Cartwright in M&A/PE, Adrian Chiodo in the Leveraged Finance team, Funds partner Ted Craig and Securities and Capital Markets partner Max Kirchner.

Mr. Brooks will join the growing Structured Credit practice at the firm, working closely alongside the London office’s Collateralised Loan Obligations lead Cameron Saylor, Restructuring and Finance heavyweights Mei Lian and David Ereira, and Energy and Infrastructure Finance specialist Derwin Jenkinson.

Brooks adds additional depth to Paul Hastings’ market-leading Structured Credit practice, which consistently leads in league tables and market share. The London CLO team handled 116 CLO transactions in 2021, which represents approximately 50% of market opportunities.

In the first quarter of 2022, the Structured Credit practice was recognised by Creditflux for being the top CLO advisory firm globally, in the U.S., and in Europe. Across all noted jurisdictions, Paul Hastings served as arranger and manager counsel on nearly half of all CLO deals, which helped the team claim the top spot in the rankings by nearly double the deal volume.

“Our clients require innovative thinking and timely advice in the wake of today’s uncertain markets – and they require seasoned specialists to help them maintain growth sustainably,” said Seth Zachary, Chairman of Paul Hastings. “With his depth of experience across highly complex financial structures, Jason is a strong addition to our UK and global Structured Credit & Securitisation practice.”

Arun Birla, Chair of Paul Hastings London office, adds “Jason is an incredible lawyer and we are excited to have him join us in London. His arrival continues our London and global investment in top talent across finance practices.

“Paul Hastings’ strong growth in London – coupled with existing market dominance in areas like CLOs – demonstrates the firm’s ambition for the future, and I am delighted to be a part of it,” said Mr. Brooks. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues to continue their creative, forward-thinking approach.”

Mr. Brooks specialises in advising investment and retail banks, financial institutions and corporates on a wide range of derivatives and structured products, with a proven track record in advising on derivative-linked and asset-based securities matters.

Paul Hastings’ global Structured Credit team represents issuers, underwriters, and placement agents, as well as other participants such as credit and liquidity facility providers, servicers, trustees and investors – and has deep experience in all aspects of the securitisation and structured finance process in both domestic and cross-border transactions.
