CHICAGO, March 21 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP has announced that J. Kenneth Joung has joined the Intellectual Property practice group and will be a partner in the firm’s Patent Prosecution practice. He will be based in DLA Piper’s Chicago office.

Joung is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He comes to DLA Piper from E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, where he was senior counsel in its legal department and chair of the department’s technology/computer committee.

“Ken brings a high level of energy, legal acumen, and practical experience prosecuting patents for DuPont, a company that has one of the most diverse and extensive patent portfolios in the world,” said Daniel Christenbury, chair of DLA Piper’s Patent practice group. “His addition expands the patent and other IP services we offer to clients in the Chicago area, and elsewhere in the U.S.”

In addition to patent prosecution, Joung concentrated on licensing and IP counseling for DuPont’s agriculture and nutrition business, as well as the company’s engineering polymers business. Most recently he was responsible for patent representation for two major research groups in Iowa and Delaware, and prepared and prosecuted patents for plant genetics initiatives out of the Pioneer-Wilmington research and development group.

In March 2005, Managing Intellectual Property magazine named DLA Piper one of the leading patent firms in both the U.S. and the U.K. In the U.S., DLA Piper has nearly 200 attorneys heavily focused on IP matters, including patents, copyrights and trademarks, and media and advertising. The Patent Prosecution team is comprised of 46 patent lawyers, all of whom are registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
