CHICAGO, September 10, 2004 LAWFUEL – Best for law news, law, law firm management, legal news Winston & Strawn LLP (Winston) delivers again on its promise to increase its West Coast operations with David M. Hickey, who joined the firm from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP (Skadden). Hickey joins Winston’s growing Los Angeles office as a partner in the litigation department. Since the beginning of the year, Winston has added 14 partners and numerous associates across its five North American offices. The lion’s share of the firm’s impressive growth has been in its Los Angeles and San Francisco offices.

Hickey focuses his practice on international arbitration and complex commercial litigation. He has tried numerous arbitrations, jury and bench trials and represented government entities in hearings before regulatory bodies. Hickey represents multinational corporations in complex international arbitration, and advises clients in Asia and Europe in international disputes.

His experience includes a number of high-profile disputes, including representation of a Philippine/British joint venture in defense of a U.S. $500 million construction contract claim involving two power plants; Indonesia’s largest company in a $1.3 billion dispute over telecommunications agreements; and an Australian monetary fund in an international securities fraud class action litigated in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Before entering private practice, Hickey served as assistant staff judge advocate for the United States Air Force. In this role he successfully prosecuted more than 30 felony jury trials. He was named Outstanding Judge Advocate for the Fifteenth Air Force, and also served as chief of environmental law.

Hickey has lectured on international arbitration topics in Japan, the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of the Philippines, he delivered the keynote address at PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, the company’s annual meeting, in 2002 and has lectured at the Japanese Institute of International Law. He earned his juris doctor from Stanford Law School and his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.
