Clifford Chance’s leading corporate law practice in Mainland China will be further strengthened by the arrival of four new associates in Shanghai in January and February 2007.
Vivien Teu, Patrick Phua, Colleen Ryan and Ming-Yen Yip bring extensive experience of M&A, private equity and funds work and will advise a broad portfolio of domestic and international clients.
Clifford Chance’s managing partner for Beijing and Shanghai, Stephen Harder, is delighted at the influx of new talent. “Our Asian corporate team had one of its busiest years ever in 2006, and we expect this active market to continue well into 2007.
“Our new associates are expert in their respective fields, bilingual and will help us to advise an ever-growing list of clients doing business in China,” said Mr Harder.
The new associates are:

Vivien Teu, Senior Associate
Vivien has extensive experience in advising international clients on all aspects of investment fund management. She joins the firm on 15 January from Deacons in Hong Kong, and her appointment represents a further expansion of Clifford Chance’s highly successful funds practice, with Vivien focusing specifically on mainland China funds work.

Patrick Phua, Senior Associate
With extensive experience in M&A and finance work, Patrick joins Clifford Chance in early February from leading Australian firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques. In Shanghai, he will focus on M&A work for a wide range of international clients.

Colleen Ryan, Associate
Qualified in the US, Colleen specialises in private equity transactions, a growing focus for the firm’s clients in China. She will join Clifford Chance on 15 January from Chicago law firm Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Ming-Yen Yip, Associate
Ming-Yen specialises in corporate M&A and has advised domestic and international clients on all aspects of complex transactions, with specific experience of the China M&A market. Ming-Yen will join Clifford Chance on 1 February from Singapore law firm Rodyk & Davidson.
