Comcast and Sony Pictures Entertainment Announce Programming Agreement

September 15, 2004 LAWFUEL – Best for law news, attorneys, M&A, legal research Davis Polk & Wardwell is advising Comcast Corporation on its programming and distribution agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. (SPE) and its potential investment in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. (MGM). Based in Philadelphia, Comcast is the largest cable television operator in the United States. SPE is the motion picture, television and other media production and distribution subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Corporation.

Under the terms of the agreement, Comcast will be able to distribute SPE and MGM content on its video-on-demand platform. The agreement also calls for the creation of a joint venture, to be managed by Comcast, establishing new cable channels featuring SPE and MGM content.
