thompsonCravath law firm posted an online memorial to deceased partner Andrew R Thompson who died after a car accident last month.

Mr Thompson, 43, was killed when a car crossed onto his lane.  A prominent lawyer who specialized in M&A and corporate work, he was a popular partner at the firm.

The firm’s online notice:

In Memory of Andrew R. Thompson

On February 25, Cravath lost a partner and dear friend when Andrew Thompson passed away as the result of a car accident.

Andrew was as kind-hearted and decent a man as he was a brilliant and accomplished lawyer. Whether negotiating a high-stakes M&A transaction or teaching an associate about the practice of law, Andrew always acted with good humor and equanimity. To his clients, he was a trusted advisor. To his colleagues, he was a role model and a mentor.

Andrew was born in Independence, Missouri and moved east, first to attend Brown University, where he earned an A.B. magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and then on to Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and senior Articles Editor of the Columbia Business Law Review. He joined Cravath in 1999 and was elected a partner in 2006.

Andrew exemplified the very best of our Firm and we miss him greatly. Our deepest sympathies go to his wife, two children and his entire family as well as everyone else who was fortunate enough to know Andrew.
