(March 1, 2017, Chicago, IL) — Kaufman Dolowich & Voluck LLP (KDV), a leading national law firm, today announced that it is quadrupling the size of its Chicago office with the addition of 15 attorneys from Chicago-based Baugh Dalton LLC, a boutique law firm specializing in financial services, professional and general liability, employment practices liability, commercial litigation and insurance coverage.

 

Eight partners, four associates and three of counsel from Baugh Dalton will be joining the KDV Chicago office. Baugh Dalton named partners David A. Baugh and John D. Dalton will be joining KDV where they will be co-managing partners of the Chicago office with KDV veteran Stefan Dandelles, who joined KDV in 2014 along with David T. Brown and Brendan P. McGarry, when the firm opened its Chicago office. Baugh will also be co-chair of KDV’s Financial Services Practice Group along with Dandelles and Gregg Breitbart.

 

Other partners joining KDV are Mary Kay Morrissey, James C. Yong, Daniel A. Hetzel, Jamie B. Palfai, Joseph R. Fortunato, Jr. and Raya D. Bogard. Associates joining KDV are Monica V. Banasiuk, Sinjan Bose, Emily R. Norris and Matthew Yost.  Of counsel joining the firm are David R. Carlson, Edmund S. McAlister and John D. Purdy, Jr. Baugh Dalton is bringing nine support staff to KDV.

Partner David Baugh is also a licensed CPA and concentrates his practice in corporate, commercial and securities litigation, professional malpractice defense and directors’ and officers’ liability claims. He earned his B.B.A. cum laude from the University of Georgia and his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law.

 

Partner John Dalton, also a CPA, focuses his practice in professional liability, insurance coverage and commercial litigation. He defends attorneys, insurance agents, registered investment advisors, broker/dealers, condominium associations, accountants, actuaries and psychiatrists. He also represents insurance carriers in complex coverage litigation and advises insurers on difficult coverage issues that often arise in Illinois such as estoppel and targeted tender. Dalton earned his B.A. from Illinois WesleyanUniversity and his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School.

Mary Kay Morrissey focuses her practice in the areas of labor and employment litigation, including sexual harassment, sexual discrimination, age discrimination, disability discrimination, wage and hour compliance and class and collective action, in addition to commercial litigation, professional malpractice litigation, and managed health care litigation. She earned her B.S. from Marquette University and her J.D. from the University of Tulsa Law School.

 

James Yong counsels self-regulatory organizations, broker-dealers, investment advisors, hedge funds, futures commission merchants and others in the financial services industry in regulatory matters before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), State Blue Sky Commissioners, self-regulatory organizations and other regulators. He also litigates securities matters before industry arbitrators and the federal court. He earned his B.A. from the University ofIllinois at Urbana-Champaign and his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law.

 

Daniel Hetzel practices in the area of financial services litigation and arbitration as well as professional liability and civil litigation. He defends securities broker-dealers, registered investment advisers, registered representatives, financial advisors, insurance agents and other professionals in state and federal court and before the dispute resolution tribunal of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He earned his B.A. fromNorthwestern University and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

 

Jamie Palfai will continue to work in Phoenix, AZ. He concentrates his practice in corporate, commercial and securities-related litigation as well as various state and federal regulatory matters. He earned his B.Sc. from McGillUniversity and his J.D. from the University of Arizona College of Law.

 

Joseph Fortunato Jr. serves as outside general counsel for the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors®, the largest regional Board of Realtors® in Illinois. He has been a member of the drafting committee of the Multi-Board Residential Real Estate Contract. He recently authored a book entitled “Getting Started as a Real Estate Attorney” published by the ABA. He earned his B.A. from Northern Illinois University and his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School.

 

Raya Bogard concentrates her practice in the areas of lending, business transactions, general corporate law, and real estate. Her practice involves representing commercial banking lenders, individual investors and businesses in the documentation and negotiation of real estate and asset-based loans. In addition, she represents businesses and entrepreneurs in a variety of business transaction including the formation, operation and sale of businesses and all aspects of the purchase, sale, lease and financing of real estate. She earned her B.S. from Illinois College and her J.D. from The John Marshall Law School.

 

The five KDV attorneys in Chicago will relocate to Baugh Dalton’s currentChicago office at 135 S. LaSalle Street, #2100, Chicago, IL, 60603.

  • David Carlson, of counsel, concentrates his practice in commercial litigation including professional malpractice and, in particular, corporate directors’ and officers’ (D&O) liability, attorneys’ malpractice and insurance agents’ liability. He has represented insurance carriers in connection with coverage disputes and other matters of policy interpretation including First Southern Bank, United American Banks in Tennessee, First Republic Bank Corporation in Texas and AmeriFirst Trust Company. Over the past several years, he has managed the firm’s third-party administration of over 350 claims from a run-off insurance agents errors and omissions program with a major nationwide insurance company.   • Edmund McAlister, of counsel, focuses his practice on insurance coverage disputes under general liability, Directors & Officers liability, and all-risk insurance policies as well as on general commercial litigation. His litigation experience includes large, complex, and high profile cases. He has litigated numerous coverage and bad faith matters for domestic and foreign insurer clients.   • John Purdy, of counsel, concentrates his practice in the representation of lenders and closely held businesses (for which he frequently functions as outside general counsel), and the owners of such businesses in business and personal matters. Among his clients are individuals, banks and asset-based lenders, financial intermediaries, software developers, a number of internet-based companies, and an independent records storage company.
