Duncan Cotterill adds further expertise with promotion of retail and franchising specialist AucklandDuncan Cotterill is delighted to announce the promotion of Katrina Hammon to partner. Katrina has made a significant contribution over the past 12 months in her position at Duncan Cotterill, leading the national retail and franchise team and building upon trusted relationships both here and in Australia.

Duncan Cotterill partner Raewyn Lovett says, “The speed at which Katrina has moved through the ranks is testament to her work ethic, her ability to add significant value for her clients and her depth of knowledge in the retail sector.

“We’re delighted to have Katrina join our firm and contribute her experience acting for global brands expanding to new markets including India, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, United Kingdom, America and Canada.”

The promotion follows a period of momentum that has seen the Auckland office grow to include a total of 14 partners established through a series of internal promotions and strategic new hires. Prior to joining Duncan Cotterill, Katrina was the senior legal counsel at SumoSalad Group and a senior associate at global firm Norton Rose Fulbright where she spent just under four years as part of its Sydney practice.

“I’ve grown up in retail and enjoy working in an industry that’s constantly evolving, particularly with the growing influence of digital and online. It is good to be back in New Zealand to share my experience acting for global brands expanding to new markets.

“My knowledge of the Australian and New Zealand markets and dual practising certificates is a unique offer to clients wanting to expand to Australia. The first market to expand to is often Australia; there are important legal and commercial differences that are often overlooked. I am pleased to work with clients to understand the key differences to improve chances of success in Australia.

“I’m fortunate to have the support of the other partners to grow my portfolio and the retail and franchising practice within Duncan Cotterill,” Hammon says.

Katrina continues to work with some of Australasia’s largest franchisors and is regularly called upon for media commentary and strategic advice related to industry compliance, competition and consumer law, intellectual property, expansion and international trade.

With over 13 years’ experience in the legal sector, Katrina has fostered strong connections within the industry and with clients throughout Australasia and Asia-Pacific including SumoSalad, Luxottica, Pita Pit, Godfreys and Narellan Pools.

Katrina is based at Duncan Cotterill’s newly refurbished Auckland office in the historic Australis Nathan Building above Tiffany & Co. For media enquiries, please call Malcolm Harrington on: +64 3 372 6488 or +64 21 274 0321
