Foley's New Director of Diversity

Powered By LawFuel September 16, 2019, Boston, MA – Foley Hoag LLP has hired Rosa J. Nunez in the newly-created role of Director of Diversity & Inclusion. Foley Hoag has championed diversity and inclusion since its founding in 1943 and is known for the legacy of Charles J. Beard II, the first African-American promoted to partner at a major Boston law firm.

“By hiring Rosa, Foley Hoag is augmenting the resources dedicated to diversity and inclusion across the entire firm,” said Foley Hoag Co-Managing Partner Kenneth Leonetti. “We strongly believe in the importance of a holistic approach to D&I. Foley Hoag has always dedicated itself to bringing together lawyers and professional staff members of different backgrounds, skills and experiences. These individuals bring with them unique perspectives that enrich our culture and enhance the quality of our work. We welcome Rosa to the firm, and look forward to her guiding our D&I initiatives.”

In this position, Nunez will be responsible for developing, implementing, leading and championing proactive diversity and inclusion initiatives and programs, in alignment with Foley Hoag’s overall strategic plans. She will also co-chair the firm’s Diversity Committee along with Leonetti.

Nunez has more than 15 years of experience specializing in workplace diversity and inclusion spanning diversity supplier practices, employee engagement, workplace culture, and community outreach programs. She has a proven record of accomplishment in developing new processes that foster inclusive leadership, unlocking collaboration and innovation, eliminating hidden barriers to success, and empowering companies to attract, retain, and advance their top diverse talent.

“I am delighted to join Foley Hoag and establish its D&I program,” said Nunez. “My goal is to strengthen the firm’s dedication to fostering an environment in which diversity is welcomed and celebrated and in which every individual has equal opportunity to thrive. I look forward to building on the firm’s respected legacy and culture.”

Prior to joining Foley Hoag, Nunez served in similar roles at BCW (Burson Cohn & Wolfe), Omnicom Media Group, and Accenture. She is a National Board Member of INROADS, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and placing talented but underserved youth in various business and industries. Nunez received her MBA from the University of Phoenix and her BA from Fordham University.

Foley Hoag’s commitment to diversity and inclusion traces its roots to the founding of the firm in 1943. Henry Foley and Garrett Hoag were determined to hire the very best lawyers, based entirely on individual merit and without exclusion – an attitude that set them very much apart from others in the Boston legal community of that era. Those traditions of excellence and inclusiveness have remained guiding forces in the firm’s culture.
