Former Israeli Businesswomen & Lawyer Wins Fairway Scholarship For Gender Power Paper

Powered by LawFuel – The 2019 winner of the FairWay Resolution Anne Scragg Scholarship is Nurit Zubery.

Born and raised in Israel, Nurit studied law at Tel-Aviv University and worked as a lawyer in the areas of litigation, commercial and employment law, prior to moving to NZ in 1999 where she has owned and managed two successful businesses. In more recent years, Nurit has been exploring her passion in mediation. She studied at the Massey University Dispute Resolution Programme, before beginning an LLM at the University of Auckland.

“Nurit’s paper, which examines perceptions of gender power in Family Dispute Resolution, prompted some really interesting discussions during her interview with the Panel. We were very impressed by her plans to progress with both quantitative and qualitative research in this field. I anticipate that many of my family mediation colleagues will be interested in findings, and how they might inform the development of Family Dispute Resolution practice,” said Denise Evans, Principal of Dispute Resolution at FairWay.

The FairWay Resolution Anne Scragg Scholarship is part of FairWay’s commitment to leading best practice dispute resolution. Following a shortlisting process, the selected finalists were invited to submit a paper on dispute resolution topic of their choice and were interviewed by a panel. The winner receives a $10,000 contribution to their professional
development and they have the opportunity to join the FairWay team for a 12-week placement.

“We’re delighted to announce Nurit Zubery as the recipient of this year’s scholarship. Nurit plans to use the scholarship to further her research on subjective perceptions of fathers’ rights groups members who have been through an FDR process, compared with women’s experiences. We are proud to support research into dispute resolution in New Zealand,
particularly in the area of family mediation which has a profound impact on thousands of New Zealand families each year” said Rhys West, Chief Executive of FairWay.

Nurit’s article ‘Perceptions of Gender Power in Family Dispute’ is published on the FairWay website, alongside the other finalist submissions by Ana Lenard, Lily Wilkie and Regan Nathan.
