Greenberg Traurig Expands its Intellectual Property Practice with the Addition of Scott E. Thompson in New York

NEW YORK, September 5, 2007 – LAWFUEL – The Law Firm Newswire – Greenberg Traurig, LLP announced today that Scott E. Thompson has joined the New York office as a shareholder in the Intellectual Property Practice. Thompson, with more than 20 years of Intellectual Property Law experience, joins the firm from GlaxoSmithKline where he was a Vice-President, Global Trademarks. Prior to Glaxo, he was Vice-President and Associate General Counsel at Colgate-Palmolive, the Assistant General Counsel – Trademarks at Philip Morris and in private practice.

Mr. Thompson will be focusing his practice in a variety of areas. He will be advising clients on global cost effective trademark management including the establishment of in-house capabilities and outsourcing opportunities, IP audits, enhancing IP value, internal and external cost management programs, clearance and filing programs, global anti-counterfeiting enforcement and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. He will be working in the area of domestic and international litigation and appeals and strategic management of multi-country complex IP lawsuits. He will also represent clients in administrative proceedings such as global trademark prosecution, opposition and cancellation actions and proceedings before advertising self-regulatory bodies. In regard to transactional matters, Mr. Thompson will provide advice on and negotiate international acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and licensing deals.

Mr. Thompson is an active member of the International Trademark Association and currently serves as a member of the INTA Programs Committee. He formerly served as an officer, Secretary and as Treasurer and as a member of the INTA’s Board of Directors as well as on the editorial board of Trademark Reporter and as the Chairman, Board of Governors of the Brand Names Educational Foundation. He received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and a B.S. from Cornell University.
