Herbert Smith recently advised the Government of Qatar on the £106.8
million acquisition of One America Square, a 13-storey office building in the
EC3 area of the City from the Gertner family interests. Current occupiers
include Cantor Fitzgerald, the US inter-dealer broker. They also advised
on the refinancing by way of a £90m loan facility from Allgemeine Hypothekenbank Rheinboden, following last year’s £160 million
acquisition of 60 London Wall from Scottish Widows.

On the One America Square acquisition Chris de Pury was assisted by
Molly Smith, Zahra Bardai in real estate, Paul McCrory in corporate, together
with Derek Hill and Andrew Prowse in tax.

On the 60 London Wall transaction Chris de Pury, assisted by Iain
Carruthers provided real estate advice, with finance’s Gary Hommel, Tim McNamara
and Lucy Carter also advising.

Chris de Pury commented: “It was pleasing to be able to demonstrate to the Government of Qatar the full client service that we are able to provide on two deals in such
close succession.”
