International law firm DLA is delighted to announce that Gordon Smith has joined its Singapore office as a partner in the Litigation and International Arbitration Group. Gordon is an international litigation and arbitration lawyer specialising in construction and infrastructure disputes. Gordon joins DLA from Baker & Mackenzie.Wong & Leow in Singapore where he has been a partner since 2001 and Head of the International Arbitration and Construction Group.

Gordon said of his move to DLA Singapore:
“I am delighted to be joining DLA’s Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Group in Singapore. DLA has achieved a huge amount in the short time they have been practising in this region and I am particularly pleased to be joining such a dynamic team.”

Gordon’s appointment strengthens DLA’s international dispute resolution and arbitration practice in Singapore. The team provides advice on international construction, insurance and reinsurance, marine, energy, projects and infrastructure disputes. Gordon’s arrival brings the total number of specialist dispute resolution and arbitration lawyers in Singapore to eight and confirms DLA’s commitment to international arbitration and dispute resolution in Asia.

Peter Shelford, DLA’s Head of Litigation in South-East Asia, confirmed, saying:
“Over the past three years, we have been working towards developing a complete and high quality arbitration service in the region and Gordon’s arrival goes a long way towards achieving that objective when combined with the services that we already offer. It is also very much in line with our vision for South-East Asia which is to become a significant part of DLA Asia in size, fee income and referrals.”

Neil Micklethwaite, DLA Board representative responsible for Asia, welcomed Gordon’s arrival at DLA and said:
“Gordon’s arrival will further strengthen our international arbitration practice in Asia, which has now become well established in the region, after only three years. Gordon’s skills and experience will complement those of Peter Shelford and Justyn Jagger particularly well.”
Gordon officially joined DLA on the 12 April 2004.
