Irvine Man Sentenced For DUI KillingLos Angeles drunk driving attorneys reported that an Irvine man was sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison on Friday for gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI that resulted in the death of CSU student Ashley Knight last November 2007.

Reportedly, Brian Burchfield, aged 22 had been drinking at a bar near Orange circle and at a friend’s house on the night of November 16, 2007 and then decided to drive home. Burchfield was driving east on the westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway when he crashed head-on into the car that Knight was riding in as a passenger. The driver Samira Bahu, reportedly was seriously injured in the accident that killed Knight.

According to Vicki Maciha who is the senior Victim’s Advocate for the areas local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the sentence that Burchfield received from Judge Carla Singer, was one of the stiffest drunk driving sentences this year.
