Pop star Justin Bieber will have to pay a hefty legal fee rather than the usual price for a DUI offense after his lawyer appears to have secured a deal that will see him escape probation and come away from the DUI issue with a clear record.
Bieber is to next week plead guilty to reckless driving, pay a fine and attend anger management classes as part of a plea agreement, according to the LA Times.
And his lawyer has done a great job, not surprising given its legal star Roy Black, by ensuring the star does not have the problems faced by Lindsay Lohan problem of having major problems every time he might fall foul of the law.
The plea deal resolves an alleged driving under the influence charge, stemming from a January arrest.
Bieber’s lawyers were successful in quashing this stipulation of the plea agreement, arguing that the gesture would be inappropriate.
The judge also requested that Bieber attend drug and alcohol education classes, but his lawyers also successfully argued against this. They said that it was unnecessary, and might suggest that their client had a substance-abuse problem.
In addition, once they complete the conditions of their plea agreements, both Bieber and Sharieff will have the reckless driving charges expunged from their records.
On Jan. 23, a then 19-year-old Bieber was arrested in Miami on suspicion of DUI, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license.
Reports at the time indicated that Bieber was “drag racing” with a friend, rapper Khalil Sharieff. While members of the Los Angeles Police Department who were on the scene also described such an event, no official charges were filed.
At the time of Bieber’s arrest, a tox screening revealed the singer tested positive for THC, the main ingredient of marijuana, and had a blood alcohol level of 0.014 percent. The legal blood alcohol level for minors in the state of Florida is 0.02 percent.
