Helen Michael and Jeffrey Lenser Join Washington, DC Office

WASHINGTON, DC (March 23) — Kilpatrick Stockton LLP announced today the addition of partners Helen Michael and Jeffrey Lenser to its growing and nationally-recognized Insurance Recovery Team. Ms. Michael and Mr. Lenser have joined Kilpatrick Stockton’s Washington, DC office from Howrey.

Five Insurance Coverage Team attorneys have been added to the firm’s Washington, DC office since August of 2009 including partners Barry Fleishman and Erica Dominitz who joined from Dickstein Shapiro LLP. Earlier this month, Carl Salisbury joined the Insurance Recovery Team in the firm’s New York office from Anderson Killian & Salisbury.

Ms. Michael specializes in complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on the insurance coverage, products liability and antitrust fields. She has been trial and appellate counsel in complex individual party, multiparty and class action cases in both state and federal forums nationwide.

Her extensive insurance coverage practice has involved high-stakes disputes in a wide variety of areas, including products liability and environmental claims, advertising liability, construction defect claims, directors and officers liability, and errors and omissions liability. Her work for Fortune 100 and other corporate policyholders has taken place in a variety of settings, including mediation, arbitration, trial and appeal, and has included a multi-phase trial resulting in one of the largest jury verdicts reported in 2003, and one of the largest bad faith and punitive damages verdicts reported in 2001.

Ms. Michael also has extensive experience in class action practice and the formulation of effective strategies for defeating mass tort and other consumer claims, including theories governing the piercing of the corporate veil and the imposition of successor liability. She has counseled numerous clients on developing protocols and structuring transactions to guard against incurring vicarious liability for the obligations of corporate affiliates. Ms. Michael has lectured and written on a variety of subjects relating to insurance recovery and class-action litigation. She has recovered nearly a billion dollars in insurance proceeds for her clients.

Ms. Michael earned her LLM, with highest honors, from George Washington University Law School, her JD, with honors, from University of North Carolina School of Law, and her BA, with honors, from Hampshire College.

Mr. Lenser practices commercial litigation, particularly insurance coverage. He has extensive experience representing policyholders in insurance recovery matters in federal and state courts across the country. By employing alternative dispute resolution as part of a comprehensive litigation strategy, he has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars in insurance proceeds for his clients.

Mr. Lenser has obtained insurance coverage for clients in several areas, including product liability, environmental, bodily injury, directors and officers, and errors and omissions. He has particular experience obtaining insurance coverage on behalf of clients in the chemical and oil and gas industries. In this role, he has worked closely with insurance and environmental experts.

Mr. Lenser earned his JD, cum laude, from the University of Texas School of Law and his BA from the College of William & Mary.
