Life Sciences Attorney Thomas Duley Joins DLA Piper

Addition Brings Industry Experience; Strengthens Firm’s Leading Life Sciences Capabilities

(San Francisco) March 23, 2010 – DLA Piper announced today that Thomas E. Duley has joined the firm as of counsel in the Corporate and Securities practice. He will be located in the firm’s San Francisco and Palo Alto offices.

Duley, former senior corporate counsel and head of the transactional legal group at PDL BioPharma, Inc., focuses his practice on negotiating, drafting and managing a variety of intellectual property transactions for life sciences companies, including collaboration agreements between biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, licensing agreements with commercial businesses and academic institutions, supply and manufacturing agreements, and asset purchases and sales involving drug products and manufacturing facilities.

At PDL BioPharma, Inc., a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company that researches, develops, manufactures, and sells pharmaceutical products, Duley was responsible for all general commercial and intellectual property contracts on behalf of the organization, including managing legal issues arising from collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
