Law Firm Reed Smith Adds Partner to e-Discovery Group

September 2, 2014, New York – Reed Smith LLP today announced the addition of Mayer Brown’s Anthony Diana as a New York-based partner in its Records and E-Discovery (RED) Group. Diana was formerly a partner and co-leader of Mayer Brown’s Electronic Discovery & Information Governance Practice in New York.

“A Chambers-ranked lawyer with a national reputation, Anthony brings to our fast-growing Records and E-Discovery practice a stellar reputation and wealth of experience,” said David R. Cohen, Leader of Reed Smith’s Records & E-Discovery. “Anthony’s client mix strongly overlaps with Reed Smith’s core areas of financial services and life sciences and his presence in New York will help us better serve clients in New York as well as globally.”

Diana has counseled large financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers on all aspects of the discovery and management of electronic information, including: the development of policies and procedures for the preservation, collection, review, and production of electronically stored information; the development of data source catalogues, disclosures, and responses relating to electronically stored information; the remediation of large volumes of legacy data, both paper and electronic; and the defense of electronic discovery procedures before federal regulators and the courts.

“My practice has many synergies and much in common with Reed Smith’s leading work in this field,” said Diana. “This firm’s RED team has a deep bench of lawyers delivering cutting edge data protection and privacy services, and its global platform is outstanding. I am looking forward to leveraging these resources to better serve our existing clients, as well as extend the reputation of Reed Smith’s RED team worldwide.”

A 1993 graduate of Columbia Law School, Diana joined Mayer Brown in 1997. Prior to that, he was an associate with Shearman & Sterling LLP from 1994 to 1997, and a law clerk to the Honorable Jay C. Waldman from 1993 to 1994.

Reed Smith now has some 90 lawyers, counting e-discovery attorneys and traditional partners, counsel and associates, in the RED Group. Its lawyers help clients with all phases of the discovery process, serve as national discovery counsel advising on defensible processes, best practices and technology, and counsel clients on effective information governance and records management, often in conjunction with the firm’s data protection and privacy lawyers.

Attorneys in the RED Group also collaborate with other litigators at the firm to tailor discovery to individual matters and work with clients and case teams to reduce e-discovery costs through advanced filtering techniques, tested workflows, cutting edge review technology, and the firm’s experienced but low cost e discovery review attorneys. Additionally, the RED Group assists clients and merits counsel with other phases of discovery and case preparation, from initial preservation, through negotiations, court conferences, motion practice, depositions, trial, and cost recovery efforts.
