LawFuel.com – Secret hearings at Guantanamo Bay at the weekend resulted in a confession from one of the brains behind the 9/11 terror attacks.

The hearings were held as the US military determined whether 14 of the prison’s highest profile inmates should be prosecuted. A transcript released by the Pentagon of the hearing showed that reported mastermind of the attacks Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, confessed not only to the 9/11 attacks but to others as well.

The hearings are to determine whether the detainees should be declared “enemy combatants” who can be held indefinitely and prosecuted in a military tribunal.

Mohammed is also believed to have been involved in a foiled plot to crash aircraft into London’s Heathrow Airport.

Al-Libi is a Libyan regarded by Pakistani intelligence as a successor to Mohammed as the third-ranking al-Qaida leader. He became the most wanted man in Pakistan for reportedly undertaking two bombings 11 days apart in December 2003 and which targeted President Pervez Musharraf. Musharraf narrowly escaped injury, but 17 other people were killed.

Reports indicate that Mohammed claimed responsibility for planning and financing others for attacks ranging from the 1993 attack at the World Trade Center to the foiled attempt by shoe bomber Richard Reid to blow up a trans-Atlantic flight.

Mohammed confessed to planning 29 individual attacks, including many that were never executed.
