LAWFUEL – Law News Network – As reported by The New York Times, The Daily Deal and other media outlets, on July 31 Paul, Weiss client Time Warner Inc. and its cable subsidiary, Time Warner Cable Inc., and Comcast Corporation announced that they completed the acquisition of substantially all of the assets of bankrupt cable operator Adelphia Communications for approximately $12.5 billion in cash and 16 percent of Time Warner Cable stock. As part of the transaction, Time Warner Cable and Comcast completed redemptions of Comcast’s interest in Time Warner Cable and its subsidiary, Time Warner Entertainment Company, L.P., and also exchanged some of their respective subscribers (after completing the Adelphia acquisition) to consolidate their respective customer bases in key regions. As a result of these transactions, Time Warner Cable gained approximately 3.3-million subscribers, for a total of 14.4 million, while Comcast added approximately 1.7-million subscribers.
