LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Roger F. Corliss, age 34, a resident of Seminole, Florida, was sentenced today to a term of 37 months’ imprisonment in United States District Court in Tampa, Florida. Corliss was charged earlier this year in an eleven count indictment charging him with mail fraud arising out of a scheme to solicit contributions from the public on behalf of phony police related organizations.

The fraudulent scheme raised more than $113,000, none of whichwas used to benefit law enforcement officers and their families as represented in the solicitations. Bank records obtained during the investigation revealed that over 7,000 people made contributions to Corliss’ entities, Police Association and State Police Association, which averaged approximately $15 each. Numerous individuals were repeatedly solicited and made multiple contributions.

The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, Tampa,
and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dennis I. Moore of the General Crimes Section of the United States Attorney’s Office.
